Higlights: Uovo Festival (Milan, Italy) March 16-26, 2011

UOVO AN UNDISCIPLINED PROJECT ON THE CONTEMPORARY WORLD

Uovo is an international and undisciplined project that promotes contemporary creativity in its diverse declinations and expressive formats, going beyond the traditional division of genres and places of representation and favoring a cross between diverse disciplines of art and of communication.

A nomadic and undisciplined path that reflects on identity and creativity in the contemporary city, promoting the search of new forms of expression related to generational trends. With a particular attention to young creativity, uovo very often presents, for the first time in Italy, famous artists and emerging realities that are not recognized in a rigid way within the traditions disciplines (theatre, dance, visual and plastic arts) but work across all of them.

Uovo cooperates with public institutions and private companies to devise, plan and advise on a wide variety of artistic and cultural projects.

Below is a Contemporary Perfromance Network curated list of highlights. For a full list of performances visit the Uovo Festival website.

Insorta Distesa – Il Soluzione
Plumes dans la tête
March 23-24, 2011

© Giulia Fedel

Il Soluzione is a work of great charm and gentle strength of Silvia Costa, Italian young performers supported in recent years by Uovo. A mysterious figure appears on the scene a path of liberation, a journey in stages towards an ideal of perfection, presenting an intense climax perceptive and sound. With this work Plumes dans la tête confirms its vocation as an investigation ‘vision’ of the body and space.

Vexations: Wir nennen es Arbeit (we call it work )
Space/Sound/Performance Installation by Kerstin Kussmaul (A) and Jan Burkhardt (D)
March 19 – 20, 2011

Repeating a piece of music 840 times – that’s a lot of work. Work that choreographer Kerstin Kussmaul and pianist Jan Burkhardt go to trouble with the composition “Vexations” by Erik Satie, the longest piece of music in history. “We call it work” is thus the suitable subheading for their performance lasting more than twenty hours. It features a cleverly devised system of admission that thematises the attendance and function of the audience. The current performance at ImPulsTanz was preceded by a different version on invitation by ODC Theatre, San Francisco.

Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso
Socíetas Raffaello Sanzio
March 17, 2011

The work of Romeo Castellucci and Socìetas Raffaello Sanzio is considered by artists and audiences worldwide to be highly influential in contemporary performance. Having created a new non-narrative theatre, a visual language that directly challenges traditional forms, Castellucci’s visionary work is uncompromising and always surprising. Making impressive large-scale work that questions our entire human condition, Inferno, Purgatorio, Paradiso has a company of over 60.
