Opportunities: The Black Box International Theatre and Dance Festival (Bulgaria)

The “Black Box” International Festival is held each year from May 31 to June 10 in the city of Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

The festival presents original, challenging Bulgarian and international chamber plays, monodramas and dance performances, in addition to organizing seminars and workshops.

Artists from Bulgaria, Germany, Israel, Brazil, Iran, Switzerland, Colombia, Greece, Russia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, France, Canada, Spain, Chile, USA, Turkey, Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium and South Korea have taken part in the festival over the years.

The “Black Box” IF is organized by the Black Box Foundation, in partnership with the Municipality of Plovdiv, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria, the National Culture Fund, and the Ancient Plovdiv Municipal Institute. Bulgaria’s foreign embassies and cultural institutes also play an active role in co-organizing the event.
The “Black Box” IF is on the official cultural calendars of the Ministry of Culture and Municipality of Plovdiv.


All submissions must be Bulgarian and/or Plovdiv premieres.
Submissions must received on or before October 15, 2013.
If your production is selected, the Black Box Festival will send you a formal invitation, and cover your hotel, meals, and transfers to/from Sofia Airport.
Airline tickets and scenery or other freight shipping costs will not be covered.
Your production’s total cast and crew may not exceed five (5) people.
