Taking off from the reality tv competition format, SQUART! (short for spontaneous queer art) challenges performers to create work collaboratively in a highly limited period of time, aspiring to stimulate altered states of mind, body, and attitude. Now in it’s second year SQUART has had over 200 participants; for this round, creator/choreographer Laura Arrington, Artist in Residence (AIR), and original instigator of the SQUART! series offers three opportunities for you to engage:

1) Participate as a performer! Given the themes of “Retreat” and “Endurance,” 40 participants will generate four original works on-site at Headlands over the course of 24 hours, beginning at 2PM on Saturday, March 26. – UPDATE: Participants selection process has been completed and announced – see below.

2) Witness the creative process! Visit Headlands between Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon to see the works in development.

3) See the final product! The resulting pieces will be performed on Sunday, March 27 at 3PM for a live audience and panel of celebrity judges, including J Headlands’ organic Mess Hall Café will serve beverages and light fare during the event.

ABOUT THE OFFCENTER
We are a collective or artists and art makes whose main objective is to research Queer sensibilities as a lens for contemporary thought, art, action and community. By providing a multi-disciplinary forum we look to question issues around gender, race, resilience, identity, engagement, and evolution. Our focus is to provide resources and provocation to emerging and established art-makers who are dedicated to the intentional negotiation of concepts, modalities and/or voices of a Queer lens. Furthermore, we seek to contextualize ourselves, our programming and our mission within contemporary realities, historical wisdom, and global intelligence. To learn more visit theoffcenter.org
