In Performance: John Jasperse Company – Canyon (NYC)

Canyon
John Jasperse Company
Nov 16—19, 2011 at 7:30pm

Witty, incessantly curious, and smart as a whip, choreographer John Jasperse (Misuse liable to prosecution, 2007 Next Wave) has trained his singularly skewed worldview on all manner of disciplines, including architecture, finance, and aesthetics. In his latest work, Jasperse tackles wonder and the ineffable—the transformative power of losing oneself in visceral experience—where the supremacy of the intellect is humbled into a state of awe. Created in collaboration with five dancers and performed to a live score by composer Hahn Rowe, Canyon plays with engineered disorientation, sensory overload, spaciousness, fractured connectivity, and rapture.
