In Performance: thingNY’s SPAM v.3.0

For the third year in a row. new music ensemble thingNY presents their community opera project, SPAM. In late September a cryptic email was sent out calling on friends and strangers to create or devise a work on the theme of “assembly” utilizing some, none or all of the six musicians of thingNY. The catch: all emails and submissions are to be performed in part or in whole. The result is a multi-room, multi-instrumental soiree celebrating the vibrant community of experimental artists and the diversity of creative amateurs. Over time, the SPAM project has also charted the ensemble’s artistic community, revealing immediate aesthetic and formal contexts for the work of the ensemble’s composer-performers Gelsey Bell, Andrew Livingston, Paul Pinto, Erin Rogers, Dave Ruder and Jeffrey Young.

All 60-something new works and 100-something emails will be performed in some manner around the space (sometimes simultaneously and sometimes more than once).

Works by: Aaron Krerowicz, Aaron Siegel, Abigail Levine, Alejandro T. Acierto, Aliza Simons, Andrea La Rose, Anna Costa e Silva, Barry Seroff, Ben Morse, Brian McCorkle, Carolyn Chen, Cleek Schrey, Dan Pinto, Daniel Burnam, Daniel Lukes, Daniel Smith, Dante Palmieri, Dave Malloy, David Drexler, David Gutowski, Dennis Bathory-Kitsz, Douglas DaSilva, Douglas Laustsen, Elliot Cole, Esther Neff, GANDHI, Go Yo, The Hartt School of Music, Howie Kenty, Jacqueline Ahl, Jared Mallito, Jason DaSilva, Jim Ball, Jonah Bloch-Johnson, John Hagan, John King, John Melillo, Joshua Morris, Kala Pierson/ Noah River Cusack, Kan-no Shigeru, Lindsey Edwards, Luke Schwartz, Lydia Bell, Marcelo Messina, Matt Samolis, Matt Weber, Miguel Frasconi, Mike Perdue, Mort Stine, Nathan Koch, Nic Gareiss, Paul Burnell, Pauline Oliveros, Peter Bjuhr, Pierre Boulez 69, Rhonda Taylor, Richard Pressley, Robert Ashley, Sascha Goldhor, Storm Garner, Travis Just, Ulf A Holbrook, Viola Yip and Zack Lischer-Katz
