♦ MPA-B PROGRAMME: May 24th ♦

Today, two new projects from our group of 23 Associate Curators, come to life: the BEYOND COMMEMORATION series curated by Dovrat Meron and the SHADOWS series curated by Laura Biagioni. 

BEYOND COMMEMORATION questions the Holocaust Memorial in Berlin and explores alternative ways of commemorating the millions Jews killed during the Nazi regime, by inviting different artists to make site-specific works in Eisenman’s controversial monument. Today, starting at 19:00 at OKK Gallery in Wedding, you can see an exhibition of the work of the participating artists: Birgit Auf der Lauer, Moran Sanderovich, Valeria Schwarz & Maik Kerner. The exhibition runs until June 2nd. Performances will take place on the 26th.

Laura Biagioni brings to the MPA-B programme SHADOWS, a series of performances mixing art and new technologies and reflecting on the universal law of action and reaction, as well as workshops with the artists Mali Weil and Stratofyzika. Today starting at 18:30 and going on until 22:30 with performances every 30 minutes (8€/6€ – reservations at: [email protected] & +49 177 7477 181) Mali Weil will perform ANIMAL SPIRITS at Ada Studio in the Uferstudios’ complex.

If you missed today’s PANIK FOR BRUNCH with the PAN Vienna group at L’Aterlier Kunst(spiel)raum you can still join this fantastic and eclectic group of artists from 15:30 to 18:00 (2€) with PANIK FOR OPEN FLOOR. Today’s hosts are Miss Universe and Burçak Konukman. The Open Floor will include performances by Anaïs Héraud, Burçak Konukman, Marieke Warmelink, Miss Universe, Takahiro Tomats exploring the crashes in networking.

Associate Curator Teena Lange concludes her series THE IMAGE IS THE ACT? at Grüntaler9 with a final performance project with Dolanbay titled UNTITLED SINGULAR ACT, in which the artist will examine the Singularity of an act within the mode of his artistic practice. Dolanbay will perform today from 15:00-21:00 (2€) with the following co-performers: Lea Dietschmann, Maria De Faria, Hikaru Inagawa, Joachim Krüger, Christopher MacBlain, Lisa Stertz, Angie Teickner, Irene Pascual, Lukas Panayi, Judith Rudolf, Ellen Weise, William Woolf.

British artist Emma Dixon brings a site-specific project to the gardens outside GlogauAir from 12:00 to 14:00 (free entrance) which will see the participation of 10 performers and plenty of paper to fold.

Meanwhile Marisa Benjamin will perform TRACING GRAVITY at the gallery space Joao Cocteau from 19:00-19:45 (free entrance) a project based on the idea of verticality and how it affects artificial and natural settings.

Viviana Druga performs INCAGED from 22:00 (free entrance) a performative act during which the artist will re-enact the self-captivity, pursuing the transformative effect of indulging into and escaping a self-made cage-prison. INCAGED takes place at Rose – TransformationsSalon.

PIC – PIECES IN CHAIN, an event around Performance Art, Documentation and Scores curated and organized by Bassano Bonelli Bassano, Barbara Marcel, Camila Rhodi, Maicyra Leão and Vera Sofia Mota, and featuring different artists each day, continues for a second day at Altes Finanzamt 19:00-23:00 at Altes Finanzamt.

Warmer Brothers continue their cooking extravaganza series in people’s apartments with HOT ACTS no.4 ‘Spice Secrets’. They say: “We are what we eat. That’s the rule of our cooking game. Forget your ID’s, your CV’s, and your ABC’s. The only talk on the table will be your handle on spices, and how spicy you can get.” Hot Acts no. 4 will happen in a long in Kreuzberg, and it’s already in full capacity.

Caden Manson is a director, media artist, and teacher. He is co-founder of the media ensemble bigartgroup.com and network, blog, and publisher, contemporaryperformance.com. He has co-created, directed, video- and set designed 18 Big Art Group productions. Manson has shown video installations in Austria, Germany, NYC, and Portland; performed PAIN KILLER in Berlin, Singapore and Vietnam; Taught in Berlin, Rome, Paris, Montreal, NYC, and Bern; the ensemble has been co-produced by the Vienna Festival, Festival d’Automne a Paris, Hebbel Am Ufer, Rome’s La Vie de Festival, PS122, and Wexner Center for The Arts. Caden is a 2001 Foundation For Contemporary Art Fellow, is a 2002 Pew Fellow and a 2011 MacDowell Fellow. Writing has been published in PAJ, Theater Magazine, and Theater der Zeit. Caden is currently an associate professor and graduate directing option coordinator of The John Wells Directing Program at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama.
