♦ MPA-B PROGRAMME: May 29th ♦

Us Inc. are ready: the club is set, the artists have warmed up, the DJs await for you in their shiny booths and this duo of MPA-B Associate Curators, Leen Horsford and Amy Cade, can’t wait to welcome you all to their three day-long performance art extravaganza at SHIFT, dedicated to celebrating gender and sexuality. “It is not our differences that divide us, rather it is our inability to recognise, accept and celebrate those differences, ” (Audre Lorde) say their curatorial statement. And Us Inc. will do exactly that: celebrate those differences with a rich programme featuring storytelling, performances, lap dancing, music, audience interactions and more! Today is the BIG OPENING, kicking off at 17:00 with Rosana Cade’s “My Big Sister Taught Me This Lapdance” and continuing performances and music by Elise Terranova, Mischa Badasyan, Roberta Orlando, , The Savages. La Poulette, Dwayne Strike, Kay P. Rinha and Mad Kate | the Tide.

Big openings are also followed by big closings, and today Associate Curators Laura Biagioni, and Stefania Angeling & Judith Lavagna, will bring to an end their extensive programme with two performance evenings respectively at Uferstudio and L’Atelier Kunst(spiel)raum.

SHADOWS OF aiKia, a movement-based interactive audio-visual performance inspired by the process of individuation, described by Carl Gustav Jung’s analytical psychology, will see the group Stratofyzika return to the stage, after having premiered the project at Platoon Kunsthalle’s first Salon Revolutionär. “Is it possible to shatter these projections and uncover the true self?”
Conceptually inspired by the process of individuation, focusing on the “shadow aspects” of our egos; parts of personality which remain unconscious, only to be revealed in the mirror image of others. Tonight Uferstudio Studio 1 hosts two performances at 1930 and 2130 (10€/7€).

Meanwhile L’Atelier Kunst(spiel)raum in Kreuzberg, will present a finissage of the exhibition ‘Displaying the Instant’, featuring performances of Christian Patracchini (20h), Pierre-Étienne Morelle (20h30) and Nicolas Puyjalon (21h30). ‘DISPLAYING THE INSTANT’ is a time-based project investigating performance art in relation to its production of presence. The title refers to the question of how performative action can be exhibited, in consideration of the display of its documentation, protocoles, fragments, relics and artworks. ‘DISPLAYING THE INSTANT’ aims to focus on the ontology of this ‘immaterial labour’, where performance does not end with the experience in front of an audience. It rather constitutes an art form through the production of artefacts and their mediatization, both embodied into a ‘time-bound’ exhibition process.

The wonderful space Naherholung Sternchen will see artists Stella Veloce, Katie Dunbar, Emilio Gordoa and Anaïs Héraud presenting REFLEKTOR a performative and poetic introspection on the relationship between the desire to be witnessed and the individual quest for identity. Two performers and two composers will develop their work in this multimedia event, transcending the borders between music and performance. Working with light, voice, sound and movement, they adapt, confront and link their own practice in a three part installation developed in the unique and inspiring space. It starts at 20:00 (entrance donations)

Tonight it’s the final performance starting at 18:00 and finishing with the sunset by Alison Crocetta and Yurie Umamoto titled RAIN OR SHINE.
