Opportunities: Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives Artist Residency (Australia)

Opportunities: Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives Artist Residency (Australia)

Deadline: 14 Nov, 2014

Applications open for artist residencies on the edge of Wollemi National Park, 1.5hrs from Sydney.

BigCi provides a ground for the professional development of artists from various fields, such as the Visual Arts, Performing Arts, Literature, Music, Photography, Film, and Hybrid Arts.

Painters, sculptors, multimedia artists, performance artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers and other creative souls are invited to apply for the residency.

Artists stay in BigCi for an agreed period of time, either in the Art Shed, the Studio or the House – depending on availability – to create new work, develop ideas, or work on their projects. The work space will depend on artist’s project requirements. The vision is that the extraordinary beauty of the surroundings will provide a ground for creativity and professional development. The Art Shed, the Studio, the House, and the 8 acres of the property’s bush land are available for all kinds of initiatives. Each project will be discussed individually.

Proposals are welcome throughout the year – each time of the year has its own beauty and creative possibilities. It is recommended that proposals are submitted well in advance.

Successful applicants are charged a subsidised residency fee. The 2014 rate is AUD$250 (plus $25 GST) per person per week for Australian artists and AUD$300 (plus $30 GST) for International artists. This includes artist work space, facilities and support as well as accommodation, shared living facilities, bathroom, kitchen, internet, electricity, water.

Successful applicants will be responsible for all other costs including food, transport, travel costs, insurance and art materials. They will be required to pay a refundable bond of AUD$500 prior to occupancy to cover any costs associated with damage or extraordinary cleaning.

BigCi is located on the edge of Wollemi National Park, about one hour and a half away from Sydney. Due to the remote location of BigCi, a car is strongly recommended. Please note that BigCi does not provide transport and that the artists are responsible for making the necessary arrangements. In cases when the artist is unable to have a car, we will provide a pickup/drop off from Richmond train station on arrival/departure and once a week transport for food shopping.

Note that there is no stipend or living allowance attached to the stay in BigCi. Interstate and overseas artists in particular should consider other ways to fund their visit.

There is a possibility of an exhibition, performance, workshop or other special event during or at the end of the residency, as well as a representation on the BigCi website and social media.

To secure the booking, the residency fee including the refundable bond is payable upon the approval of the application form. All applicants will be notified in writing of the outcome of their application.
