Gouvernement is a micro artistic workcenter and cultural platform in the center of ghent. A project started by three people with different backgrounds and a shared enthusiasm: providing a surrounding in which young & emerging artists can try, fail and try again. They can do so in 5 studio spaces. when work is done, it can be presented in a public multidisciplinary space. On top of that, Gouvernement adds up to the existing cultural supply in ghent. Independently & in collaboration with established organisations it maintains a peripheral programme of its own. The project targets a variety of people and disciplines (visual arts, music, theatre) with emphasis on cross-fertilazation and the unexpected.
“Internen” is a residency program focused on research, experiment and innovation. Participants will be granted 4 weeks of investigation in an embryonic process. Be it very first steps or off-track maneuvers, the accent lies on development rather than on result. There are no restrictions on disciplines or themes.
Particular attention goes to preparation and aftercare. A diverse artistic board has been compelled. Based on interviews and informal talks, they select, observe and monitor the “internen” during their residency.
By the end of week 4, residents get the opportunity to share their research findings with an audience. Again, this should by no means be a finished result. Additionally, they can invite kindred spirits and inspirational companions during this presentation.
The 4 weeks on site are profoundly documented, both online and offline. “Internen” leave with a substantial “dossier” for future reference & continuation.
In a conclusive stage, the participant & the artistic board meet again to take a longer view. The artist’s work can be introduced to a network of affiliated art centres.
