Will Rawls is a choreographer, writer and performer. His practice engages relationships between language, image, architecture, sound and dance, to formulate nondisciplinary questions regarding humanity and social inscription. He frames the self within the scripted and racialized anatomy of art spaces, where the technical and mechanical are critically unraveled by the personal. Rawls’ work has shown work at The Chocolate Factory, Danspace Project, ImPulsTanz, MoMA PS1, Performa 15 and Portland Institute of Contemporary Art. He is recipient of a 2017-2018 Guggenheim Fellowship, Foundation for Contemporary Arts Grant 2015, the Casinos Austria 2016 Prix Jardin d’Europe, and a Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency 2017. Rawls has taught and lectured at Wesleyan University, Williams College, Harvard University, UC Berkeley, tanzquartier wien, and ImPulsTanz. His writing has been published by Art Forum, Triple Canopy, les presses du réel, The Museum of Modern Art, and Danspace Project.

Rawls co-curated Lost and Found with Ishmael Houston-Jones, the 2016 Danspace Project Platform considering HIV/AIDS, absence, dance, and queer performance. Rawls also contributed programming to the 2012 Danspace Project Platform: Parallels, looking at the existence of black dance. He was also co-curator for the 2009 Movement Research Spring Festival: ROLL CALL.

As an interpreter and performer, Rawls has worked with Marina Abramovic, Jerome Bel, Alain Buffard, Maria Hassabi, Xavier Le Roy, Tino Sehgal, and Shen Wei Dance Arts. (Source: https://willrawls.com/)
