Opportunity: ‘Diabatic Dance’ Advanced Training Course directed by Claudia Castellucci
Where: Teatro Comandini Cesena
When: 7 October – 20 December 2024
Deadline: 2 September 2024
Online Application: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jUaiaxlynvMmrr2txmsBltNUlNQI1cQO/view
Fee to Participate or Apply: free of charge

Description Of Opportunity:

The Course, which is free of charge, is part of the Societas Institute for Research and Applied Art, which brings together all the theoretical and empirical activities that take place at the main facility, the Comandini Theatre in Cesena.

The Course is intended for Dance Interpreters, Choreographers, Performance Interpreters and Creators, Teachers of Movement and Directors of Workshops for Educational Departments.

The ‘Diabatic Dance’ postulates an integral dance, i.e. one that is entirely saturated with the psychic, and not only athletic, presence of the performer. Therefore, it indicates neither a style nor a method.

The Course is conceived as a specific exploration of the temporal aspect of dance, and the concept of moment -which indicates the smallest movement -provides the basis for a specialised study that defines and analyses dance starting from the first motor impulse. Observing and paying the utmost attention to all moments in dance that seem minor -because they are transitory- is the aim of this course.

Teachers: Claudia Castellucci, choreographer, dramaturge and teacher who works with Sissj Bassani, choreographer and dancer; Giovanni Campo, choreographer and dancer; Andrea di Serego Alighieri, researcher in Poetry and Metrics; Yasmine Hugonnet, choreographer and teacher; Joe Kelleher, Theatre and Performance scholar; Snejanka Mihaylova, artist and teacher; Francesca Proia, choreographer, writer and yoga teacher; Cindy Van Acker, choreographer and teacher; Simon Vincenzi, choreographer and teacher.

How To Apply:

The Course is intended for young people aged between 18 and 35 years, residing in Emilia-Romagna, who have completed their compulsory education and are accomplished dancers, while potentially coming from different schools and styles.

Admission
Admission is divided into 2 stages.

1a: send a C.V. and a video (max. 3’) with a full-length shot of the candidate performing a short rhythmic sequence to music of their own choice within midnight of 2 September 2024, to the e-mail address: [email protected].
Candidates who meet the minimum entry requirements and who achieve a minimum score of 12/20 for the first stage will be entitled to participate in the second stage of the auditions.

No later than 4 September 2024, candidates will be notified by e-mail of their results, which may allow them to be admitted to the 2 nd stage, which will physically take place at the Teatro Comandini in Cesena, the location of
the Course, on 9 and 10 September 2024.

The audition consists of two tests (maximum total score 50 points) and a predisposition interview (maximum score 30 points), proposed by
Claudia Castellucci and Sissj Bassani.

First test: performance of a short rhythmic sequence with a musical base.

Second test: performance of a short sequence of simple actions, in which each candidate will have to make an immediate choice on the duration of each action, in order to test his/her sensitivity in assessing the value in terms of time of what is happening.

The interview that follows is intended as a mutual clarification of the purpose of the course. The evaluation criteria will involve: sense of rhythm, ability to regulate the duration of the pause, memory and balance.

The results of the selection will be communicated in writing, by e-mail, within 12 September 2024.
