♦ MPA-B PROGRAMME: May 16th ♦

We are delighted to introduce the beginning of yet another programme from our team of 23 Associate Curators: Ilya Noe’s EROGATE/SURROGATE PERFORMANCE SERIES which starts today with an exhibition and the first of a series of performances taking place at different sites around the city. Three performance artists living and working in North America have been invited to present their solo work in Berlin under one condition: that they trust other artists they’ve never met to perform it on their behalf. During the two months leading up to MPA-B 2013, erogates and their appointed Berlin-based surrogates worked together while keeping detailed records of their transatlantic conversational exchanges and instruction/learning processes. E-mails, chats, audio recordings, videos, photos, notes, sketches, doodles, clippings and any other resulting documents will all be exhibited starting from today at II II // I Project Space from 19:30 and at 20:00 there will be a performance titled BECOMING WITH by Kevin O’Connor (Erogate Performer) + Moritz Geiser (Surrogate/Erogate Performer).

And guess who may be taking you for a ride today? The Surrealist Taxi is back and with a performing passenger! The BALLAD OF SKINNY LATTES AND VINTAGE CLOTHING is a solo performance installation, accompanied by a driver, navigator and occasional passengers. Its subject is globalisation and the effect on our high streets. “The Manifesto of the Revolutionary Middle Classes” will serve as our central theme as we take an aleatoric journey through Berlin chronicling the rise of the middle classes as they invade the city with fair-trade coffee and chi-chi retro clothes. The performance will take place in the Surrealist Taxi – which will also be available for booking if we choose to answer the phone: +49 (0) 151 53100608

New projects for today are also:

FAMILIAR BINARIES by Seda Yildiz, who asks “…but do you think is it possible to present a work of art without talking about it?” The idea of Seda’s un-going project “Familiar Binaries”, originates in the very well-rounded idea of “unknown”; indirectly talking of history, theory, image, a document, a book; but more of the unknown in a work of art; a progress of artist among the production way. Her project starts at 20:00 at District Kunst- und Kulturförderung (free entrance).
