Berlin-based performance artists Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke will perform Europe Endless, part of their choreo-cinematographic series entitledDirectory. This double portrait guides spectators through fragmented milestones of their lives, examining themes of loss and mourning, identity, and gender troubles. Departing from childhood memories, it travels through family history and artistic development, journeying from the countryside of Bavaria, to Berlin, the slums of Rio de Janeiro, and Bologna. Directory: Europe Endless finishes with their meeting in Brussels in 2001, where the two merge into the artistwin deufert&plischke.

Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke (also known as artistwindeufert&plischke) live and work in Berlin. They have produced a number of theater projects that deal with the complex dynamics embedded in artistic processes and production. The duo’s artistic language transgresses the conventional boundaries of theater and dance and focuses on proximity, individual partaking, and the social life within the artistic realm. Their recent work constructs environments that offset the everyday by integrating and processing it into artwork and environments that invite audiences to spend time.

In collaboration with friends and colleagues from the fields of visual art and theory, they developed the Anarchiv series (2008) theEmergence Rooms (2010) and the Entropic Institute (2012). In addition to their artistic practice, they also work as mentors and curators. deufert&plischke have taught their practice of reformulation at art schools and universities including the University of Hamburg, JLU Giessen, and Inter University Center for Dance (HZT) in Berlin where they have both held professorial appointments since 2010.
