Every summer, BE FESTIVAL brings together the most daring and original theatre from across Europe. The festival’s mission is to cross borders, so we look for work that can inspire people of all nationalities, and which crosses borders between artistic disciplines.
– Performances at the festival can be no longer than 30 minutes, so you may need to shorten your piece.
– We programme finished pieces and work that is still in development.
The festival is a powerful showcase opportunity. Performances are watched by national and international programmers, and BE shows have since been programmed at London International Mime Festival, The Barbican, South Bank Centre, The Lowry, Leeds Carriageworks, Bilbao ACT Festival, Rome Short Theatre Festival, Teatro Espagnol and Sarajevo MESS Festival to name a few.
The festival is also an opportunity to explore ideas and build new collaborations with performers from across Europe.
Companies will be provided with accommodation, meals, transport in Birmingham, and will get access to world-class workshops, feedback, discussions and opportunities for professional development.
5 main prizes will be awarded at BE FESTIVAL 2013:
– one Development Prize: £1500 and a funded residency to develop your work and perform it at BE FESTIVAL 2015;
– the ACT Festival Prize: a funded performance in Bilbao and a residency to develop a new piece;
– three UK Touring prizes: a funded, paid tour of 20 venues across the UK and Spain in November 2014.
We do not pay a fee or fund all travel costs to Birmingham, but we can advise you in finding funding.
The deadline is 17 January 2013 and to be considered, please send a video of your work in rehearsal or performance (as a link) and a fully-completed application form.
Please forward this on to any people you think may be interested.
Many thanks and we wish you the very best for 2014,
the BE FESTIVAL team
