Description Of Opportunity:

Wir befinden uns im Zustand globaler Trance. Selbst die begrifflichen Wurzeln der Trance sind spürbar: Mit den letzten Monaten haben wir eine neue Erfahrung des »Überschreitens« gemacht, einige entwickelten die »Angst vor dem Bösen«. Die Ereignisse haben uns aufgespannt zwischen Aktivität und Passivität, höchster Aufmerksamkeit und körperlicher Starre, zwischen totaler Fokussierung auf das Hier und Jetzt und Ausflüchten in erträumte Ferne, zwischen ratio und Rausch. Zugleich hat die Suche nach Trance eine lange Tradition: Seit mehreren tausend Jahren hat sie der Mensch kultiviert und zur Technologie gemacht. Religionen, Künste, Militär, Wissenschaft und YouTuber:innen haben sich ihre Praxen angeeignet und ihr Potential erforscht. Wie die Kognitionswissenschaft zeigt, können tranceartige Zustände zur Weiterentwicklung und Ausbildung neuer neuronaler Netze führen. Welche Trancen lassen sich entwerfen, um unsere gegenwärtigen mentalen Netze neu zu spannen?

Der 8. Performance Garten sucht performative künstlerische Arbeiten, die sich mit verschiedenen Aspekten der Trance auseinandersetzen. Erwünscht sind möglichst breite Lesarten und Annäherungen. Der Call richtet sich an Nachwuchskünstler:innen und erfahrene Künstler:innen gleichermaßen. Willkommen sind performative Arbeiten unterschiedlicher künstlerischer Disziplinen und Medialitäten (zB Video-/Tanz-/Musik-/Lecture-Performances). Nicht-regionale Künstler:innen werden gebeten, ein Konzept für eine digitale Version ihrer Arbeit beizufügen.

Zur Veranstaltung erscheint eine begleitende Printpublikation. Das Programm ist kostenfrei und, soweit es die geltenden Richtlinien zulassen, offen für alle. Als Begleitprogramm sind individuelle Künstler:innengespräche, sogenannte TWALKS, vorgesehen. Die Künstler:innen haben die Möglichkeit, hierfür eine textile Edition zu gestalten (Details tba).

Den Künstler:innen wird eine Aufwandsentschädigung sowie eine Reisekostenpauschale für An- und Abreise gezahlt. Übernachtungskosten können nicht übernommen werden.

We are in a state of global trance. Even the conceptual roots of trance are palpable: In the last few months we have had a new experience of “going beyond”, some developed the “fear of evil”. The events stretched us between activity and passivity, maximum attention and physical rigidity, between total focus on the here and now and evasions into dreamy distant places, between ratio and intoxication. At the same time, the search for trance has a long tradition: man has cultivated it and turned it into technology for several thousand years. Religions, arts, military, science and YouTubers: inside have adopted their practices and explored their potential. As cognitive science shows Trance-like states can lead to the further development and formation of new neural networks. What trances can be designed to re-tension our current mental networks?

The 8th Performance Garden is looking for performative artistic works that deal with various aspects of trance. The broadest possible readings and approximations are desirable. The call is aimed at young and experienced artists alike. Performative works from different artistic disciplines and medialities (e.g. video / dance / music / lecture performances) are welcome. Non-regional artists are asked to include a concept for a digital version of their work.

An accompanying print publication will appear for the event. The program is free and, as far as the applicable guidelines allow, open to everyone. As an accompanying program, individual artist talks, so-called TWALKS, are planned. The artists have the opportunity to design a textile edition for this (details tba).

The artists are paid an expense allowance as well as a flat-rate travel allowance for arrival and departure. Accommodation costs cannot be covered.
