PROGRAMME OVERVIEW
MA DOT (MA Directing of Devised & Object Theatre) is a space for artists to expand their practice and explore the possibilities of contemporary performance. With a focus on research and development as well as material aspects of performance, the course provides a unique path towards creating your own artistic process. Focus on objects and other types of material aspects of performance tend to ground the students in researching the existing material and to view it not only as something to be used in the performance but something to be explored. The students will have the opportunity to encounter a large variety of approaches to contemporary performance through working with the teachers and visiting artists.
Over the course of the 4 semesters, the students will work on developing their own performative language, strategies, and poetics – that together form one unified research. Students will be tutored in such a way to be able to formulate their own interests, strengths and weaknesses and build productive performative research. Students are further invited to use theory as a strong inspirational and supportive element of their research and to intertwine practice and theory in such a way that it becomes available for audiences in its performative form. Further, the students will be thought to perform, make space, use material as well as basic strategies of production so they can be able to perform a multiplicity of functions and thus survive in often very poor circumstances of the independent theatre.

STUDY PROGRAMME
The degree is in directing, where directing is understood as an expanded practice, with the potential to work within the fields of design, writing, and performing, to prepare students for work in theatre forms without strict divisions of roles within the creative team and becoming independent creators making their own artistic work. For their own projects, students are partnered with prominent practising artists working in the fields of media, site-specific, community theatre, movement theatre, documentary theatre, puppet theatre, visual theatre, scenographic installation etc., for tutoring.
The main focus of the study is to develop students’ own language, style and aesthetics, and to explore their own voice.
