Description Of Opportunity:
Delivered by Independent Dance in partnership with Trinity Laban and Siobhan Davies Studios, MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional enables experienced practitioners to develop their artistic practice in a stimulating environment of creative inquiry.
It supports mid-career artists and interdisciplinary movement practitioners to:
- reflect on their body of professional experience
- study intensively with internationally renowned artists and a skilled peer group
- deepen their own practice as performers/makers/movement researchers
- develop their understanding of a range of research methodologies and pursue their own area of creative interest
- become part of a growing international community of artists
The programme works with an expanded notion of dance in dialogue with wide artistic and cultural contexts. It embraces a diversity of forms and approaches to somatics, embodiment and dance, with guest artists of international renown leading practical and discursive sessions and seminars. Peer learning and support is integral to the approach, with students bringing and exchanging a breadth of experience and expertise. The programme promotes a fluid and generative exchange between theory and practice, in the belief that knowledge emerges through dance and movement practice itself.
Two core modules of the programme are led by Independent Dance based at Siobhan Davies Studios. This offers a rare bridge between academic and dance professional spheres, drawing on the resources and expertise of both.
These two core modules are Embodied Practice and Investigative Practice. Both are run as intensive 5-week blocks in order to make it more possible for students to continue professional commitments outside of the programme.
MA/MFA Creative Practice: Dance Professional alumni become part of a growing international community of artists and practitioners and often continue to engage with both Independent Dance and Siobhan Davies Studios after graduating.
