Description Of Opportunity:

Collaborative Theatre Making MA/MFA

Collaborative Theatre Making (CTM) empowers you to create your own original work with ensemble training, original creation and devising at its core.

Duration: 13 months (MA), 24 Months (MFA) / Start Date: October 2025

This innovative program focuses beyond acting and directing to train you to become a holistic theatre maker. Your strengths and originality will be brought into the process, with working as an ensemble at the forefront. You will become a highly versatile creator with the ability to enter a range of different working situations: not only will you be able to engage in conventional auditioning processes, you will be empowered to develop and perform your own original material, as well as work in ensemble settings either as a leader or a collaborator.

Who is this programme for?

You will be interested in maintaining engagement with all aspects of theatre making in a truly collaborative setting. This programme is geared towards candidates who have multiple competencies in terms of theatrical practice – performing, writing, musical skills – who want to create their own original work.

What are the programme highlights?

You will be engaged in a highly collaborative practice from the start, building a foundation based on communicating and working as a group. You will be facilitated to create original material as an ensemble, with the ability to explore different aspects of performance making throughout the year.

Throughout your study, you will engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with many other MA students from a range of programmes, including Contemporary Directing Practice, Light in Performance, Actor Musicianship, amongst others.

Beyond the theoretical, you will be taught by internationally acclaimed practitioners that are actively making work. You will benefit from being exposed to expert and contemporary approaches to theatre making, with real-world applications, from chorography, movement, writing, directing, to extended vocal techniques. The CTM programme director is the founding artistic co-director of New York City based internationally acclaimed multidisciplinary performance group, WaxFactory. Recent and upcoming instructors, visiting companies and practitioners include: Complicité, Punchdrunk, Forced Entertainment, Sasha Waltz & Guests, Katie Mitchell, Martin Crimp, Dimitris Papaioannou, Dalija Acin Thelander, Mita Pujara, Lorenzo Montanini, Kathy Pogson, Paul Brennen, and many others.
