Works & Process invites New York City-based dance artists and dance companies to apply for week-long, out-of-town artist residency taking place between October 2026 and May 2027. The program supports the development of new or existing work through focused rehearsal time, artist fees, and production resources.
Residencies are awarded through an open call process and are part of a larger network of partner venues. Each residency is structured around a one-week period dedicated to creative development, culminating in an open rehearsal or showing for a local audience.

About the Opportunity – Artist Residency – Works & Process
Works & Process produces more than 25 creative residencies each year through a network of partner venues. The program is designed to support artists at different stages of project development, from early exploration through final rehearsals and touring preparation.
Residencies are structured as focused, short-term development periods. Artists are provided with time, space, and resources to advance their work, with each residency concluding in an open rehearsal or informal showing for the local community.
What Is Offered – Artist Residency – Works & Process
Selected artists receive:
- Artist fees of $175 per day per artist
- Up to $1,225 per artist for a 7-day residency
- Total artist fees up to $9,800 per project
- One-week residency (7 days)
- 24/7 studio access
- On-site housing
- Travel stipend from New York City to the residency venue
- Opportunity for an open rehearsal or informal showing
- Potential future presentation opportunities with Works & Process
Residencies support companies of up to 8 artists.
Who Should Apply – Artist Residency – Works & Process
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Lead artist identifies as a choreographer or dancemaker with at least five years of performing activity in the New York City metropolitan area
- All participating artists must live in the five boroughs of New York City
- All participating artists must be 18 years or older
- All participating artists must be U.S. citizens or legal residents able to be paid for work
Projects may:
- Start a new work or continue developing an existing project
