Get The Application Strategy

AIR Taipei Taiwan Artist Residency operates through several residency pathways. Applicants must select a single category and build a proposal that responds directly to that residency structure. International applicants, puppetry applicants, and applicants pursuing overseas exchange opportunities are evaluated through different frameworks and expectations. Reviewers assess project relevance, feasibility, engagement potential, artistic experience, and the relationship between the proposed project and the residency context.

The Strategy Coach Notes for this opportunity break down the evaluation process, proposal structure, residency planning requirements, partner institution selection, application materials, and reviewer priorities. Join the network to access the full Strategy Coach Notes.

About the Taiwan Artist Residency

AIR Taipei is organized by the Taipei Culture Foundation and uses Treasure Hill Artist Village as the foundation of its residency network. The program was created to support artistic development and international cultural exchange between Taipei and cities around the world. Through residencies, artists are encouraged to engage local communities, develop new work, conduct research, and participate in cross-cultural dialogue.

The 2027 Open Call includes four residency categories: International Residency, Domestic Residency, Overseas Residency Visit, and the Treasure Hill Artist Village × Puppetry Art Center of Taipei Project Residency. Applicants may only apply to one category during the application cycle.

For international artists, the International Residency and Puppetry Residency are the primary opportunities. The International Residency supports projects across visual art, performance, music, architecture, literature, curatorial practice, cultural studies, and interdisciplinary arts. Residents spend between eight and twelve weeks at Treasure Hill Artist Village while developing projects connected to Taipei’s cultural environment.

The Puppetry Residency focuses on contemporary approaches to puppetry and object theatre. Selected artists work with the curatorial team of the Taipei Puppetry Festival and are expected to create a puppet performance lasting more than twenty minutes for public presentation on October 30, 2027.

The Overseas Residency Visit category supports Taiwanese artists through placements with major partner institutions including Tokyo Arts and Space, Atelier Mondial, Perth Institute of Contemporary Art, MMCA Residency Goyang, East Street Arts, and several additional organizations across Asia, Europe, Australia, and North America. Participants receive a NT$100,000 creative grant, airfare support, and residency resources provided by host institutions.
