Get The Application Strategy
The Strategy Coach Notes for this opportunity should focus on the central instruction in the application: please do not propose a project. This application asks artists to explain their current artistic trajectory, why this is the right moment to radically disrupt their practice, and what questions they could bring into the Institute. Applicants should prepare responses that show a mature body of work, an active practice, and a clear need for change. Join the network to access the Strategy Coach Notes.
About the TMT Institute Fellowship
Target Margin invites applications for the next group of TMT Institute Fellows in its 2026/2027 season. The Institute is designed for artists who seek to radically disrupt and re-examine their practice. The program creates a space where an artist can challenge their individual process, question the assumptions they hold around making art, and try new directions without any expectation of result or success.
The Institute intentionally discourages project development. Applicants should not propose a project. Each Fellow brings their own questions and ideas into the program. Target Margin supports that inquiry with space, material resources, and a $2,000 stipend. The application asks for background information, examples of work, and short responses that reveal how the artist thinks, notices, questions, and identifies a need for change in their practice.

Why The TMT Institute Fellowship Matters
The TMT Institute supports artists at a specific point of change. The application asks applicants to articulate why this moment in their trajectory demands disruption and new thinking. That makes the opportunity useful for artists who have already developed a body of work and now need time, structure, space, and a cohort context to question how they make work. The program values process, inquiry, and practice-level change rather than project completion.
