Opportunities: 'Diabatic Dance' Advanced Training Course directed by Claudia Castellucci (Teatro Comandini Cesena) Deadline – 2 September 2024

Opportunity: ‘Diabatic Dance’ Advanced Training Course directed by Claudia Castellucci
Where: Teatro Comandini Cesena
When: 7 October – 20 December 2024
Deadline: 2 September 2024
Online Application: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1jUaiaxlynvMmrr2txmsBltNUlNQI1cQO/view
Fee to Participate or Apply: free of charge

Description Of Opportunity:

The Course, which is free of charge, is part of the Societas Institute for Research and Applied Art, which brings together all the theoretical and empirical activities that take place at the main facility, the Comandini Theatre in Cesena.

The Course is intended for Dance Interpreters, Choreographers, Performance Interpreters and Creators, Teachers of Movement and Directors of Workshops for Educational Departments.

The ‘Diabatic Dance’ postulates an integral dance, i.e. one that is entirely saturated with the psychic, and not only athletic, presence of the performer. Therefore, it indicates neither a style nor a method.

The Course is conceived as a specific exploration of the temporal aspect of dance, and the concept of moment -which indicates the smallest movement -provides the basis for a specialised study that defines and analyses dance starting from the first motor impulse. Observing and paying the utmost attention to all moments in dance that seem minor -because they are transitory- is the aim of this course.

Teachers: Claudia Castellucci, choreographer, dramaturge and teacher who works with Sissj Bassani, choreographer and dancer; Giovanni Campo, choreographer and dancer; Andrea di Serego Alighieri, researcher in Poetry and Metrics; Yasmine Hugonnet, choreographer and teacher; Joe Kelleher, Theatre and Performance scholar; Snejanka Mihaylova, artist and teacher; Francesca Proia, choreographer, writer and yoga teacher; Cindy Van Acker, choreographer and teacher; Simon Vincenzi, choreographer and teacher.

How To Apply:

The Course is intended for young people aged between 18 and 35 years, residing in Emilia-Romagna, who have completed their compulsory education and are accomplished dancers, while potentially coming from different schools and styles.

Admission
Admission is divided into 2 stages.

1a: send a C.V. and a video (max. 3’) with a full-length shot of the candidate performing a short rhythmic sequence to music of their own choice within midnight of 2 September 2024, to the e-mail address: istituto@societas.es.
Candidates who meet the minimum entry requirements and who achieve a minimum score of 12/20 for the first stage will be entitled to participate in the second stage of the auditions.

No later than 4 September 2024, candidates will be notified by e-mail of their results, which may allow them to be admitted to the 2 nd stage, which will physically take place at the Teatro Comandini in Cesena, the location of
the Course, on 9 and 10 September 2024.

The audition consists of two tests (maximum total score 50 points) and a predisposition interview (maximum score 30 points), proposed by
Claudia Castellucci and Sissj Bassani.

First test: performance of a short rhythmic sequence with a musical base.

Second test: performance of a short sequence of simple actions, in which each candidate will have to make an immediate choice on the duration of each action, in order to test his/her sensitivity in assessing the value in terms of time of what is happening.

The interview that follows is intended as a mutual clarification of the purpose of the course. The evaluation criteria will involve: sense of rhythm, ability to regulate the duration of the pause, memory and balance.

The results of the selection will be communicated in writing, by e-mail, within 12 September 2024.

For more information: istituto@societas.es – tel. 331 1206028 (Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.).

While We Are Here: Santarcangelo Festival 2024 July 5-14, 2024 (Italy)

Santarcangelo Festival
July 5 to July 14, 2024
Santarcangelo di Romagna

The Santarcangelo Festival, renowned for its experimental approach to curating contemporary performance, has been a staple in the cultural landscape since 1971. Located in the Italian town of Santarcangelo di Romagna, the festival draws artists and audiences worldwide to experience cutting-edge theatre, dance, and performance art.

This year’s theme, “while we are here,” emphasizes the transient and ephemeral nature of live performance, inviting participants to engage deeply with the present moment. The theme underscores the festival’s commitment to creating intimate and immediate artistic experiences.

Located in the Emilia-Romagna region, Santarcangelo di Romagna is known for its picturesque streets, historic architecture, and vibrant local culture. The town provides a unique backdrop for the festival, blending the charm of its medieval roots with a contemporary artistic vibe. Festival-goers can enjoy the town’s culture, cuisine, and beauty, integral to the overall experience.

Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira
Repertoire N.2
July 12, 2024

“Repertoire N.2” is the second piece in a choreographic trilogy by Brazilian artists Davi Pontes and Wallace Ferreira that explores dance as a form of self-defense. Using unconventional and informal techniques, the performers embrace an alternative and underground style of self-defense practices and critically reflect on the world they live in, between imagination and intuition. Their aim is to free themselves from constraints, both implicit and explicit, by addressing the colonial, racial, and cis-heteropatriarchal structures present in Western thought. Starting from a question: how can you develop a self-defense dance? Pontes and Ferreira experiment with symbolic deviations from the violence planned by the state and the institutions that ensure order through repression. Their creations expand the perception of time and space through mimesis and rhythmic patterns. Influenced by martial arts, capoeira and a critical reading of dance history, the choreography explores movement vocabularies in the realm of the Black Aesthetic.

zona de derrama – first chapter
July 5-7, 2024

Catol Teixeira’s “zona de derrama – first chapter” begins with an overflowing gesture, exploring pleasure, identity, and memory through dance. This choreography, created for three dancers, embraces tenderness, risk, and celebration. Performed at dusk, it symbolizes transition and transformation, celebrating moments when boundaries are crossed. Returning to the Santarcangelo Festival for the third year, Teixeira, known for “Clashes Licking” and “La peau entre les doigts,” crafts intimate, transformative performances that resonate with audiences.

Bruno Freire
Life is not useful or It is what it is
July 6 & 7, 2024

Bruno Freire’s “Life is not useful or It is what it is” delves into philosophical and choreographic insights inspired by Ailton Krenak, a prominent Indigenous thinker and critic of urban society. Using Krenak’s publication as a foundation, Freire explores the idea that ‘life is an experience of wonder.’ This performance intertwines Krenak’s texts with dance, treating his words as musical scores that guide Freire’s movements. The piece invites the audience to listen and reflect on these profound ideas, forming a contemplative diptych with Freire’s other work, “Matamatá,” also featured at the festival.

The Santarcangelo Festival runs from July 5 to July 14, 2024. It offers a rich program of performances, workshops, and community events that promise to engage and inspire. For a detailed schedule and to purchase tickets, visit the official Santarcangelo Festival website.

CV Maintenance: The Key to Being Ready for Opportunities

Maintaining an up-to-date CV is essential for every artist. Regularly update it with sections on education, performance history, awards, residencies, commissions, teaching, workshops, panels, lectures, publications, and citations. When needed, you can easily print or download it as a PDF. Remember, CVs differ from resumes—they provide a comprehensive overview of your professional experiences and achievements, which you can copy to a resume as needed. By keeping your CV current, you ensure it reflects your latest accomplishments and remains ready for any opportunity that comes your way.

  1. Education: List your educational background, including degrees, certifications, and relevant coursework. Start with the most recent degree earned and include the institution and location.
  2. Performance History: Include all your performances, detailing the venue, date, and your role. You can divide these into solo and group exhibitions or list them together, noting solo exhibitions where applicable.
  3. Awards: Highlight any awards or recognitions you’ve received. Include the name of the award, the granting organization, and the year you received it.
  4. Residencies and Commissions: Document any artist residencies or commissions you’ve undertaken. Include the name of the residency or commission, the location, and the year.
  5. Teaching and Workshops: Include any teaching positions, workshops, or masterclasses you’ve led. Detail the institution, your role, and the dates.
  6. Panels and Lectures: Mention any panels or lectures you’ve participated in, including the event name, your role, and the date.
  7. Publications and Citations: List any publications you’ve contributed to or been cited in. Use a consistent format for listing articles, including the author, title, publication, date, and page numbers if applicable.

Keeping these sections updated ensures that your CV reflects your latest achievements and experiences, preparing you to seize new opportunities as they arise. An updated CV showcases your accomplishments and demonstrates your professionalism and preparedness to potential collaborators, employers, and institutions.
