Between the Seas Theater Productions in NYC is looking for male and female actors for the world premiere of REDSHIFT.
REDSHIFT by contemporary Greek playwright Yiannis Mavritsakis is a dark, poetic, at times disturbing Kafka-esque play for 5 characters that will have its world premiere in the upcoming Between the Seas Festival of Mediterranean performing arts in July. According to the playwright’s synopsis “With a member of a board as its main character, the play tells the story of a parasitosis in all its stages, from the infection and incubation to the hatching and the parasite’s final emergence”. It’s odd…and fascinating.
Playwright Yiannis Mavritsakis is one of Greece and Europe’s most prominent young playwrights with an impressive, very distinctive theatrical voice. His works are regularly performed in the National Theater of Greece and Theatre de la Ville in Paris. This will be the very first time his work is ever performed in the English language and we’re really excited to be bringing his work to New York City. REDSHIFT will be directed by Greek director Katerina Alexaki. Rehearsals will start mid-May. There will be two performances in late July (between 22nd and 28th) as part of Between the Seas Festival (that is also producing the play) with the plan to remount it in the following winter. We’re looking for daring actors with the ability to work in a poetic language and a challenging text. Abilities in dance, circus and similar extra-theatrical skills are strongly desired for some of the parts. Actors will be paid a stipend at the end of the run.
If you are interested in auditioning for this project please contact us at [email protected]. Auditions will take place in late April and actors will be required to prepare an excerpt of the play.
