♦ MPA-B PROGRAMME: May 3rd ♦

MPA-B 2013 Associate Curators Stefan Riebel and Teena Lange, begin their curatorial projects, taking place respectively at the Abteilung Für Alles Andere in Mitte and Grüntaler9 in Wedding.

From May 3-5 Stefan Riebel brings a new edition of his DIRECT ACTION 2013 festival (http://www.mpa-b.org/stefan-riebel.html), a 3 day-long packed festival for conceptual / non-expressive / non-dramatic actions and interventions, dedicated to performance on*with*through language. A wide range of artists including students from the Academy of Visual Arts in Liepzig will take part in Direct Action 2013 with performances and experiments divided into 4 sections: a*(invited artists) – b*(students) – c*(open stage) – d*(linked projects).

In Wedding, Teena Lange launches the series THE IMAGE IS THE ACT? with the first 4-day-long performative installation with Balz Isler, who will install himself in the gallery space from May 3rd to May 6th with his entire medial Sample-Lab (http://www.mpa-b.org/teena-lange.html)

Today’s programme also include the launch of A-CURATE #2 a monthly event dedicated to crossborder practice in art and sound performance. For this May edition A-curate presents “Verfremdet” a wild approach of performance by Emilie Delugeau through photography and today there will be a balloon performance by Lulu Rafano starting at 19:00.(http://www.mpa-b.org/may3.html)

Caden Manson is a director, media artist, and teacher. He is co-founder of the media ensemble bigartgroup.com and network, blog, and publisher, contemporaryperformance.com. He has co-created, directed, video- and set designed 18 Big Art Group productions. Manson has shown video installations in Austria, Germany, NYC, and Portland; performed PAIN KILLER in Berlin, Singapore and Vietnam; Taught in Berlin, Rome, Paris, Montreal, NYC, and Bern; the ensemble has been co-produced by the Vienna Festival, Festival d’Automne a Paris, Hebbel Am Ufer, Rome’s La Vie de Festival, PS122, and Wexner Center for The Arts. Caden is a 2001 Foundation For Contemporary Art Fellow, is a 2002 Pew Fellow and a 2011 MacDowell Fellow. Writing has been published in PAJ, Theater Magazine, and Theater der Zeit. Caden is currently an associate professor and graduate directing option coordinator of The John Wells Directing Program at Carnegie Mellon University’s School of Drama.
