Ilya Noe continues her Erogate/Surrogate Performance Series, with Performance #2: ICH BIN EIN BERLINER: MIS(S) TRANSLATION USA GOES TO BERLIN with Shannon Rose Riley + Andy Houston. This performance will happen simultaneously at Brandenburg Gate (Pariser Platz) and Schöneberg City Hall (John F. Kennedy Platz) from 12 noon to 2pm and from 4 to 6pm, where Mis(s) Translation USA [mistranslation]— an aging beauty queen and critical-cultural emissary whose purpose is to activate or embody the political tensions between the US and the country in which she performs—will stage commemorative interventions. Possible activities include offering Berliners to passersby, eating Berliners, posing for photographs, using a GTMO hood or rope, reciting a list of US military bases in Germany, and reciting or singing the last statement from JFK’s speech: “All free men, wherever they may live, are citizens of Berlin, and, therefore, as a free man, I take pride in the words ‘Ich bin ein Berliner!’”

Two more projects today tackle and explore the meaning (and predicaments) of long-term relationships: JUST MARRIED (2013) by João Vilnei & Teresa Luzio and 12 x 15 = 180 by Weeks&Whitford.
João Vilnei and Teresa Luzio, a young married couple travels to Berlin to spend the honeymoon and visit some city tourist places. The couple decides to leave at the various sites the memory cards with pictures, sounds and videos taken by them and by passersby. In each memory card there will be a text file stating that the card was meant to be lost and belongs to those who find it. The set of actions consist of leaving behind the memory of the experience, also as a way to end a marriage that belongs to the art world, so it is fictional. You can follow Vilnei and Luzio’s JUST MARRIED (2013) today from 14:00-17:00 on this route: AlexanderPlatz at Alexanderstraße 1 10178 at 14:00 | Checkpoint Charlie at Friedrichstraße 43-45 10117 at 15:00 | East side Gallery at Mühlenstraße 1 10243 at 16:00

Rebecca Weeks and Ian Whitford have been together for 15 years. In that time they could have conceived 180 different children (12 x15 =180). Instead of raising a family they have chosen to make art and to organise art projects. In this performance they plan to address this choice by using 180 eggs to generate actions which result in cooking and sharing pancakes with the audience, thus framing the processes of giving, sustaining and experiencing that are central to making and sharing performance. 12 x15 =180 will be tonight at Kotti Shop from 19:00-21:00 (free entrance)
