Every year, at the end of June, the latest crop of performing artists flood the city of Amsterdam. Graduating actors, dancers, mime artists, directors etc., national and international, will make their first appearance at several professional theatres in the heart of Amsterdam.
The International Theatre School Festival Amsterdam is the biggest European student festival and it’s a wonderful opportunity to catch a glimpse of how the arts might look in the coming years. Alongside the productions, the festival programme is filled with inspiring debates, lectures and workshops, ending every day with a huge afterparty.
As with the other festivals I’ve posted blogs about, this is one I’ve visited regularly and can thoroughly recommend. There’s no city on earth quite like Amsterdam and all Dutch theatre is innately experimental. That attitude feeds into the festival scheduling and if you’re there you’re guaranteed to see some stunning work.
This year, the festival will take place from 21st – 28th June 2013.
