The theatre academy Scuola Teatro Dimitri offers a Bachelor of Arts degree program based in Physical Theatre. Within the studies of physical theatre the main focus is on the human body as a means of theatrical expression. The different disciplines taught on a high level enable the graduating students to work in various fields within the theatre world.
Main classes taught are: pantomime, physical theatre and non-verbal acting, theatrical improvisation, acrobatics, dance, rhythm, voice, history and theory of theatre. Renowned guest teachers are regularly invited for workshops in Commedia dell’Arte, clowning, slapstick and various forms of dance. Creating various productions on a professional level and organizing shows, as well as going on tour, the STD prepares its students in real-world conditions for a life in the theatre.
The BA course lasts 6 semesters and finishes with a “Bachelor of Arts in Theatre”. In order to be admitted to auditions for the BA program, candidates must pass a 4-hour preliminary exam. After passing the preliminary exam candidates must participate in a three day exam which includes individual presentations by each applicant. Also required: age between 18 and 26 years old, high school or vocational maturity (or equivalent diploma), or extraordinary artistic talent.

Admission exam
Candidates who passed the preliminary exam, are admitted to the admission exam.
The admission exam is held in May and lasts three days, May 19-21, 2014.
It is organized as follows: two days of tests in the basic disciplines and one day of individual 3.5-minute auditions. Successful candidates may take up their places at the School in the same year (early September).
Intensive Italian course
18.8.-30.8.2014. Students of Italian language or with A2 level are exempt.
Trial period
The trial period lasts 9 weeks (September 15 – November 15, 2014). At the end of this period, a decision is taken as to the candidate’s final admission. After the trial period, 50% of students normally stay on to continue their studies.
